Description

A very mild winter caused foliage to develop about two weeks earlier than usual. The summer was dry and warm resulting in perfectly ripened grapes for harvest. Quantities were reduced, resulting in grapes with highly concentrated color and unusually rich aromas and structure. Overall, 2012 will be recorded as one of Cortona’s best in terms of quality.  The La Braccesca estate has 936 acres and is divided into two main blocks: the historical part of the estate which is situated in the Montepulciano area, and a newer block situated at the foot of the hills around Cortona. The wine is named after Achelous, the Greek figure who gave us the cornucopia, or horn of plenty. The wine was bottled in June after five months of aging in barriques.
This rich wine shows purple hues typical of Syrah. Fresh and elegant with strong minerality and vibrant red berry and white plum flavors. Soft and vibrant on the finish, thanks to the perfectly ripe fruit.

All wines have been carefully stored in a temperature control cellar at 55*.
